What would happen if all the hatred, indifference, and lack of empathy in the world eventually gave birth to an entity that thrived on the same, and it grew and grew until it threatened to devour everything? The novella was originally titled “A  Hypodermic, Jesus Christ, a Spent Condom, and John Lennon’s Sunglasses”, but that would’ve been difficult to fit on a cover and not overtake the art.
