I wrote Shun the Moon in 1994. It began as a short story called “Natasha”, which never saw publication. Eventually, I expanded the characters and created their back stories, injecting some new ideas into the werewolf trope, and the novel came to life. The story line follows a dysfunctional family of lycanthropes over hundreds of years. When I dusted off the novel in 2023, my intention was to self publish it. The novel was set in the era in which I wrote it, and I decided to keep it that way. A lot of the plot just wouldn’t have worked in the age of cell phones, 24-7 accessibility, and surveillance everywhere. I tweaked it a little and sent it off to Graveyard Press. They liked it, but felt it wasn’t horror enough, so they forwarded the manuscript to their sister imprint, Water Dragon Publishing.
