I used to watch The Frugal Gourmet every day on good ol’ PBS Channel 13. One episode focused on varying chili dishes. While discussing the origins of the dish, Jeff Smith relayed the story of clergymen in the southwest who proclaimed that chili was “of the Devil” because it was so hot! My warped brain started cranking, and “El Diablo’s Cocina” was born. It’s a fun little tale. My friend Scott gifted me this vintage Mexene chili tin that reflects the humor of the story.
