I often tell folks this is my best story. It’s based on actual events that occurred in Texas in the 80s. It also has a personal attachment as one of my nieces could have been involved had things gone differently. And the sheer level of tragedy was heartbreaking. All of these factors inspired “Today’s Special at the Forget-Me-Not Cafe: Muddy Bones and a Slice of Guilt”. Robbie Spencer is consumed with guilt stemming from a selfish, cruel act committed as a teenager. When he returns as an adult to the scene of the incident, the ghosts of his past drive him deeper into insanity. A slow burn filled with a sense of tense dread, the ending will have you cringing and crawling backwards to get away from Robbie’s mental spiral.
