When I first thought of submitting to this Old West anthology of tales from the California Gold Rush, of course my first thought was Bigfoot. Certainly some of the 49ers had a cryptid encounter or two. “The Secret People” is the story of a claim-jumper who finds there is more than gold in them thar hills.
